No Preexisting Conditions for Health Insurance

So people seem to believe that health insurance should not be able to discriminate against people with preexisting conditions, either by refusing them coverage or charging them higher premium payments. That type of discrimination is unfair. For the sake of argument, let's agree to the premise that preexisting condition discrimination to get insurance is unfair and should not be allowed...

I should be able to buy at affordable rates...

  1. Auto collision insurance after I ram my car into a tree on the very car I rammed into a tree.
  2. Auto insurance regardless of my driving history, even if the events in my driving history are my fault.
  3. Fire insurance on my home after it has already burned to the ground so that I can afford to replace that very house.
  4. Life insurance policy on my mother-in-law that passed away last June.
  5. Agriculture insurance on crops I thought about planting in Texas last year that would have surely died in the drought.
  6. Auto repair insurance after the engine of my car is blown and must be replaced.
  7. Airline passenger insurance after the plane crashes.
  8. Mortgage insurance after defaulting on my mortgage.
  9. Renters insurance after my apartment is broken into and all my stuff stolen.
  10. Pet insurance after my dog develops cancer.

It's all kind of ridiculous, isn't it? No one would call for these other types of insurance to accept the same risks they expect health insurance companies to accept.

I hope I've made my point. The purpose of insurance is to protect against unexpected risk. Not only is Obamacare unconstitutional (in my opinion), it does nothing to fix the real problem of high health costs. And if Obamacare is allowed to stand, the national cost of health care will only increase.
